Peat Sampler
Eijkelkamp 04.09 Peat Sampler

  • Eijkelkamp 04.09 Peat Sampler a kind of gouge auger.
  • The peat sampler is pushed into the soil manually. The sample containing part is a half cylinder.
  • The sample containing section is sealed off by a plate (fin) that can pivot around the axle in the middle of the sampler and that is fitted with a cutting edge on one side. 
  • Having arrived at the correct sampling depth the complete sampler is given half a turn clockwise (180°).
  • During the turning the fin remains in position which allows the half cylinder to be filled and closed again.
  • The half circular sample cylinder is kept closed by the other side of the fin during extraction.
  • Only suitable in flabby and very soft soils. To achieve maximum stability the connections between the T-handle, the extension rods and the bottom part have been executed as conic threaded connections.
  • The standard set consists of a T-handle with extension rods, an Edelman auger, a peat sampler, a push-/pull handle, tools, maintenance kit and a fibre glass utility probe. The whole is kept in a sturdy aluminum transport case.






Ekman Grab

  • Eijkelkamp 04.34 Ekman Grab for use in soft sediment that is free from plant growth.
  • Two thin hinging flaps are open while the grab is lowered. The flaps close when a drop-weight is dropped (cable operated) or a button is pressed (rod operated).
  • The pressure of the sample prevents much loss of material.
  • Small stones or stalks may prevent the grab from closing properly.
  •  The grab holds 3.5 litre and the dimensions are 152 x 152 x 152 mm.
  • A rod of 1.5 m in length is also available for the rod-operated use in shallow water.






Van Veen Grabs

  • Eijkelkamp 04.30 Van Veen Grabs used for taking disturbed samples from the bottom of lakes, rivers, etc.
  • Various designs can be supplied. The smaller designs are manually controlled.
  • At the surface the jaws are pushed open and kept in that position by a hook. To keep the hook in the right position the Van Veen grab should be sunk at a steady, not too high, pace.
  • Both jaws are fitted with holes to allow air to escape during the sinking. If these holes were not there, the air would escape when taking the sample, which would result in interference with the sample.
  • As soon as the jaws touch the bottom, the hook loosens its grip, so that, when hoisting the rope again the jaws will shut tight because of the leverage by the rods.
  • The amount of drawn sample mainly depends on the compactness of the bottom. A heavier grab catches more than a lighter one. Therefore all models have been fitted with weighting blocks. Moreover, when a strong current prevails, the cable of the heavier grab deviates less from the vertical than the lighter one.
  • Recommended to take at least 6 samples from every location and to base your conclusion on the total of the samples.
  • In spite of the heavy closing force, it can happen that a pebble sticks between the buckets. In such case the sample is not representative; the smaller parts may have excaped during hoisting. Once surfaced, the grab is emptied and cleaned.






Van Der Horst Core Sampler

  • Eijkelkamp 04.14 Van Der Horst Core Sampler used for manual filling of the stainless steel sampling tubes. Sampling can take place in bore holes, casing tubes (minimum diameter 75 mm) or in the beds of canals, lakes, etc. up to a depth of approximately 10 m.
  • Entered into the bore hole using extension rods.
  • The core sampler can be beaten into the soil using the steel hammer with nylon head or using a falling hammer (type down the hole).
  • When the sample enters the tube, the water or air above the sample can escape through a non-return valve.
  • After sampling the apparatus with the filled tube is extracted from the soil using the support and lever beam with rope catcher.
  • The standard set contains a handle with beating head, extension rods, a steel hammer with nylon heads, a falling hammer (type down the hole), a Van der Horst core sampler, sampling tubes with and without core catcher, plastic sampling liner, sampling tubes, PE covers, a hydraulic extruder and various accessories.
  • Complete set is delivered in an aluminium transport case.






Profile Sampler

  • Eijkelkamp 05.08 Profile Sampler allows taking of a sizeable and virtually undisturbed sample up to a depth of approximately 40 cm (10 cm wide and 5 cm across).
  • All roots, up to a cross-section of 2 cm, are included in the sample.
  • When sampling, both U-shaped gutters are pushed alternatingly into the soil, until the required depth is reached, after which one side of the handle is pulled sharply upwards and the other pushed downwards, thus clamping the profile.
  • Be extracted and opened to sample or describe the profile. Also replacing the sample taken (in order to reduce the disturbance of the location to be researched to a minimum) is easily executed.

Sediment Level Stave

  • Part of a standard set for measuring the depth of a sediment layer 4m.
  • The set comprises 4 sediment measuring rods of anodic aluminium with screw couplings. The rods are 1 m long and have a diameter of 25 mm. The sediment measuring rods are marked out in 5 cm markings.
  • Also includes an elbow fitting for the measuring rods so that depth measurements in the sediment can be taken at an angle.
  • A stainless steel grid and core point make it possible to probe the lower boundary of the sediment layer.
