  • The 16-ml (about 25 g) soil samples are cut from above the ground surface. They can then be packed so that they are protected from sorption (without synthetic materials), leakage and diffusion, and are then refrigerated or frozen. Analysis subsequently takes place within 48 hours or two weeks. 
  • The methanol conservation method can also be used. An ejector presses the sample directly into methanol. The soil corer can be hammered into stony soil samples without problems. The stainless steel sample tubes do not wear and can (after cleaning) travel everlasting back and forth between laboratory and field.

  • Sampling must be done without disturbance of the soil aggregates to prevent mixing with air.
  • With the special coring kit, volatilization and oxidation of components in soil samples can be prevented as much as possible. The sample under no condition comes in touch with synthetic material. The method meets the NEN 5743 norm (soil or sediment sampling with volatile components).
  • The sample has a volume of 226 ml. Therefore, suitable for the determination of volume percentages of  humidity in samples from undisturbed soil.
  • The samples are taken with a small coring apparatus fitted with thin-walled   stainless steel sample tubes. The sampling tubes preferably are pushed into the soil; possibly a steel hammer with nylon heads can be used.
  • After taking the sample, the sample tubes can be locked and cooled for transport to the laboratory. Here sub-samples can be taken from the sample tube, applying a small gauge or apple-corer. The samples can also be removed using an extruder. After decontamination the equipment can be used again.
  • The set contains an Edelman auger to pre-bore or clean the bore hole, in various types of soil, a stainless steel soil coring apparatus with a number of sample tubes, filling blocks and insulation plates. Further bottom caps, a sample extruder and maintenance material.
  • Complete set is packaged in an aluminum transport case.
  • To take samples to a depth of more than 5 m.

Liner sampler set

  • In lighter soil the auger can be pushed and turned into the soil. In heavier soils an impact absorbing hammer can be used.
  • In the standard set an Edelman- and a Riverside auger have been included for reaming out the bore hole and levelling the bottom (making it even). A conical threaded connection is used.

  • Samples are taken in stainless steel sampling tubes in auger holes or casing tubes (above as well as under the groundwater level, casing tubes with minimal diameter 100 mm) up to a maximum depth of 50 m.

  • The sampling tube is beaten into the soil using a falling hammer. After sampling the sampling tube can be sealed off with the PE covers.

  • The hydraulic extruder can only be used to remove the sample from the ordinary sampling tubes. The tubes with core catcher cannot be emptied using this extruder.
  • The sample must be removed by tapping or by pulling the plastic liner in which the sample is bedded if the liner had been placed in the core catcher before sampling.
  • Using the connection set, which has not been included in the standard set, allows immediate leaching test in the laboratory, without the need to remove the sample from the sampling tubes first.

Free-Fall Corer

  • Eijkelkamp 04.29 Free-Fall Corer for sampling fairly undisturbed sampling from the top layer of submerged sediments either or not consolidated.
  • Consists of a frame with strengthening ribs, falling weight and sampler.
  • Using a hoisting unit (davit) on board of a boat the sampler is lowered in free fall. By its own weight and velocity the apparatus penetrates the submerged soil.
  • The depth of penetration is partly determined by the composition of the submerged soil. In soils rich of mud, penetration will reach to about 80 cm, in more sandy soils this will be about 30 cm.
  • After lifting the sampler an immediate rough description of the stratification of the submerged soil is possible due to the transparent tube and also the depth of penetration can be measured.
